Design is a means to an end

“Textures, treatments, colors, and typefaces get most of the attention in graphic design. Of course they’re important, but they’re irrelevant if the underlying concept, content, and structure isn’t well conceived. This is the design.”

Wise words from a nice little article by the designer Robyn Morris.

Winter night photos

The winter is a cold(ish), dark period in Denmark, but the season has given me the chance to experiment with some long exposure night photos with my 35mm film cameras (OM-1 and Canon A1 film). Take a look.

“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.”

I went on a small scale road trip through the deep south, USA, this summer. A three weeks trip through Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama and Florida. I brought my analogue Canon A1 and Olympus OM-1 – below is some of the shots.

The Hadi Teherani ebike

Yesterday my brother came by my office and showed me his new bike, the limited edition ebike from the German (Iranian born) architect and designer Hadi Teherani. Really a nice bike, and fun to drive with the gas handle. It provides 40% of the power and can take you to 25km/h. I really like the clean classic bike look.

John Cleese on Creativity

Some time ago I came across this old (1991) video of John Cleese, explaining what creativity is, how it thrives and how to enhance it. It’s quite inspiring and thoughtful, take a look – it’s 35 minutes well spend.

It’s a sign…

Yet another Vietnamese photo – this one from Hoi An.
I’m slowly getting my scanned photos uploaded to Flickr. This one i taken with a borrowed OM-1n and the very nice and color rich Velvia50 film.

The flat UI experience

In August 2012, before the IOS7 keynote, I tried a simple design merging of the Apple, Windows Phone and Android design. Not really near the IOS7 design, but everybody’s doing IOS7 redesigns at the moment, so I thought I would just share the design thoughts here.

New site – only 5 years late!

Finally I’m launching a new site!

You might notice, that there’s not a lot of content, but things will turn up along the way, and hopefully I will deliver some nice content in the time to come. For Internet Explorer users: I’m not sure the site works for you…
