I’ve been inspired by Stanley Chow‘s great portrait illustrations for a while (I own a couple of them as well), which has led me to try making my own. I’ve been experimenting a lot with the (at first glance) apparently simple form, and creating a few portraits as well.
It’s hard to capture the small details that gives us our personalities, and defines us – i guess good caricature artists are specialists in this. I have tried creating some different portraits now, and it seems that If the design doesn’t turn out correct right away, then I’m doomed to redo it over and over, and not really catching the essence of the person in the portrait. Never the less, this is a portrait of one of my friends, I got printed and framed, for a present (click on it, to see it full size). I think it turned out pretty nice – hope she agrees.
(Sorry for the low quality photo. iPhone + dark room = not nice)
